If you know me, you will know that I have a serious soft spot for a sunrise or sunset. If you don't, this blog will show you the lengths I will go to in order to find one. This is a classic example of adding the word 'sunrise' to any sentence and me saying 'yes'. But WOW I'm so glad I did!

After two days of pure R&R by the pool and having acclimatised to the desert heat it was time to get moving otherwise I would be checking myself in as over-sized baggage on my return flight to London. The food here is way too nice. On strolling along the beach to hire a paddle board I was pleasantly surprised to bump into the familiar face and blonde locks of my friend Dean. We met two years ago when he bravely took on the challenge of teaching me to wakeboard... with a surfing background I had thought he would be long gone in search of some waves... quite fortunately for me he hadn't and the ocean here resembles a mill pond.

Looking back I'm not entirely sure how this happened but before I know it, it is 05:30 the following morning and we're getting a boat loaded with three GoPro's, two cameras, a couple of surfboards and a wakeboard. It was almost dark at this point but I could see the light beginning to creep up from the horizon behind the marina skyline.... this was going to be something else.

The objective of this dawn operation was to shoot some footage of us riding at sunrise to encourage people out of bed a little bit earlier to get on the water. Five years ago you would not have caught me out of bed before 10am on holiday, I'd even struggle to make the breakfast service before it closed, so i completely understand the love for no alarm clock. But, this was by far one of the best sunrises I have been privileged enough to soak up so I'd say just do it. You will not regret it!

We rode from the hotel jetty around the west side of The Palm Jumeirah, cutting back along in front of the impressive marina skyline where the sun was just making an appearance. The morning air is beautifully warm at around 29 degrees while the ocean sits around 33 degrees - so there were no nasty shocks on jumping in. Thankfully, I was able to take all of this in while rather surprisingly being stood riding a board with relative ease... Not to say I was catching big air mind you! I did have the super talented Dean riding next to me, often on one leg or casually sitting down on his board capturing some amazing footage for us with a GoPro. To say he is a natural would be an understatement so, this coupled with his faith in my ability definitely filled me with the confidence to sit back, relax and take full advantage of the view.

We're in the process of cutting the best footage and creating something awesome to try and recreate the experience you can have at this magic time of day. Keep your eyes peeled. Thank you so much to Dean and Al Boom Diving at the One & Only Royal Mirage for having me along for the ride!

Obviously this could have been me.... but I didn't want to outshine anyone ;)
